Apple iPhone (2007)
It seems like just yesterday that Steve Jobs unveiled this little gem. The first-generation iPhone didn't break many technical barriers, but it did popularize the touchscreen and kick of a trend that would require faster processors, more memory and higher storage capacity (the first-generation iPhone is reportedly the first smartphone to offer 16 GB of internal storage). By today's standards, the specs for the iPhone seem downright anemic -- the ARM-based Samsung processor was actually under-clocked from a stock speed of 600MHz to around 400MHz. Meanwhile, the touchscreen display resolution was a mere 320 x 480. But, the concept of a thick, light and sleek smartphone took off, and the rest is history.
