Top 20 Products From CES 2014

Gadgets Galore

The 2014 Consumer Electronics Show is over, but here's a look back at some of the best products, coolest gadgets and most jaw-dropping technology from Las Vegas. From the latest tablets, phablets and smartphones to incredible Ultra HD and 4K displays, here are the top 20 products we saw at CES 2014.

Samsung Galaxy NotePro

Samsung introduced a ton of new products at CES 2014, but arguably the best item was the company's new Galaxy NotePro tablet. A professional/business-focused version of the Galaxy Note tablet, the Galaxy NotePro not only comes with Samsung's S Pen stylus but also features a 12.2-inch HD display with a 2,560-x-1,600 resolution. The Android tablet also sports a USB 3.0 port and includes Samsung's Knox software for Android security. The Galaxy NotePro will be available in the first quarter, but Samsung has yet to divulge pricing information.

Lenovo ThinkPad 8

Another business tablet dropped in Las Vegas was Lenovo's new ThinkPad 8. A dockable Windows 8 tablet, the ThinkPad 8 comes with an 8.3-inch HD display with a 1,920-x-1,200 resolution, 8 hours of battery life and security features like TPM 2.0 (Trusted Module Platform). In addition, the Lenovo tablet comes with a micro-HDMI port, a micro-USB 3.0 port and an optional USB 3.0 dock. The Lenovo ThinkPad 8 will begin shipping later this month for a starting price of $399.

Panasonic Toughpad FZ-M1

Panasonic's Toughpad line of tablets keeps getting tougher -- and smaller. The company introduced the Toughpad FZ-M1, a new 7-inch Windows 8.1 Pro tablet that comes with the usual sturdy chassis and protection from drops, scratches, extreme temperatures, liquids and other hazards. The ruggedized tablet also comes with a user-replaceable battery with 8 hours of battery life and an optional high-capacity battery (16 hours). And even with its extra-strong chassis, the Panasonic tablet measures just 0.71 inches thick and weighs 1.2 pounds. The Toughpad FZ-M1 will start at $2,099 and be available this spring.

HP Z1 G2 Workstation

HP showed off the next generation of its high-powered Z1 all-in-one (AIO) workstation. The Z1 G2 is all about options for enterprise users, from operating systems (Windows 8.1 Pro 64, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and more) to processors like Intel's Xeon or Core i5 chips. The new workstation also comes with a 27-inch HD touch-screen display and the option for Nvidia's Quadro graphics card. And if you like lots of memory, you can beef up the Z1 G2 all the way to 32 GB of RAM. HP will launch the Z1 G2 in late January starting at $1,999.

Samsung Curved UHD TV

Curved Ultra HD TVs and displays were in this year at CES, and Samsung brought a number of models, including a massive 105-inch system, to the show. But Samsung's 78-inch U9000 UDH TV (seen here) offers an amazing 4K picture with a smaller, more manageable footprint (and price point, we assume). The new curved UHD TVs will be available this year, though individual pricing hasn't been announced yet.

Panasonic 4K Projection

Yes, it's a prototype. And, yes, this projector is an absolute beast. But Panasonic's 4K Projector is marvelous. According to Panasonic, the system uses new technology to "shift" pixels two-dimensionally in both horizontal and vertical directions, which gives you 4 times the pixel density. Panasonic wouldn't let us take pictures or videos of the projector's images, but, rest assured, they were amazing.

Sony Vaio Fit 11A Flip

There were a lot of tablet-notebook devices at CES 2014, but the convertible Sony Vaio Fit 11A Flip -- despite its long name -- was one of the best in Las Vegas. The 11-inch Windows 8.1 PC weighs 2.82 pounds, runs on an Intel Pentium quad-core processor, and comes with 128 GB of SSD storage. But most importantly, the mobile device can easily fold down into tablet mode (as shown left). Plus, it comes equipped with a stylus, the VAIO Active Pen. The Vaio Fit 11A Flip will be available this spring for a starting price of $799.

LG G Flex

It may seem like a gimmick, but LG's new G Flex smartphone was impressive. The 6-inch device features a curved OLED display with a 1,280-x-720 resolution and runs Qualcomm's 2.26GHz Snapdragon 800 processor. But in addition to being curved, the LG Flex also bends (users can flatten the device against a flat surface, for example). The smartphone's case also has a "self-healing" surface technology that repairs scratches or nicks. The LG G Flex will arrive on Jan. 31 at a starting price of $299.99.

Lenovo Vibe Z

Lenovo showed off one of the most impressive smartphones at CES 2014 with its new Vibe Z device. The company's first LTE smartphone features a 5.5-inch HD touch screen with a 1,920-x-1,080 resolution and runs Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor. The 4G wireless Android phone also comes with a sleek case in either sliver or titanium and a rear cover that has a fabric feel. The Vibe Z starts at $549 but isn't available in the U.S. -- yet. (Lenovo swears it will bring smartphones to the North American market in the near future, but no timetable has been set.)

Asus Transformer Book Duet TD300

Teased before CES 2014 as something "incredible," Asus' new hybrid tablet-notebook is packed with features and options. And the Transformer Book Duet TD300 lives up to its name, enabling users to go from a Windows 8.1 notebook to detaching the 13.3-inch display and booting up an Android tablet. The hybrid device comes with up to 4 GB of memory, 1 TB of storage in the laptop dock and up to 128 GB of SSD storage in the Android tablet. The device can run Intel's Core i3 or i7 processor. The Asus Transformer Book Duet TD300 will arrive in the second quarter for a reported starting price of $599.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon

Lenovo introduced its new ThinkPad X1 Carbon as the lightest 14-inch Ultrabook ever produced. After handling the new laptop, it's hard to argue with that claim. The X1 Carbon weighs just 2.8 pounds yet comes with a carbon fiber chassis for extra durability. The new ThinkPad also comes with Lenovo's Adaptive Keyboard technology, which automatically changes a row of function keys based on the applications you want to use. The 14-inch HD display features a 2,560-x-1,440 resolution and an antismudge cover. TheLenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon will be available later this month at a starting price of $1,299.
