Meet Lenovo's ThinkPad 10: Business Tablet And Accessories

Eye on the Enterprise

Lenovo Tuesday unveiled the ThinkPad 10, a Windows tablet geared toward business users due to an ecosystem of business-friendly accessories and services. The 10-inch Windows 8.1 tablet features Intel's Atom Z3795 quad-core processor, starts at $600 and ships next week -- with channel availability starting in late June.

The ThinkPad 10 replaces the full-size 10-inch ThinkPad 2, released in late 2012. Details of the ThinkPad 10 were leaked last month, with the official release Tuesday scheduled to coincide with Lenovo's Accelerate partner conference in Orlando, Fla., from May 12 to 14.

Speeds and Feeds

The ThinkPad 10 features Windows 8.1 including 64-bit support, up to 4 GB of memory and up to 128 GB of storage. Wireless options include 3G/4G LTE. Lenovo said the tablet is rated for 10 hours of battery life and can be configured with business-friendly features that include VPN access control, application deployment management, accidental damage protection and laser etching and tagging.

PC Mode

With Lenovo's ThinkPad Tablet Dock, users can use the tablet in fully functional desktop mode. The docking station supports expansion of an external display, mouse and a Bluetooth keyboard or users can directly attach Lenovo's ThinkPad 10 Ultrabook full-size keyboard.

Quickshot Cover

Lenovo's Quickshot Cover ($60) allows users to fold back the edge, revealing the tablet's 8-megapixel camera. Folding back the Quickshot Cover automatically launches the camera app.

Stand Mode

The Lenovo ThinkPad 10's Protector case ($70) can be folded back so the tablet can be viewed in consumption mode.

Digitizer Pen

ThinkPad 10 comes with a digitizer pen for natural writing input. It should be noted the pen is not capacitive, meaning it does not work the same way a finger does.

Earphones

Earphones in addition to the camera make it possible for videoconferencing on the fly. The tablet supports Wi-Fi and 3G/4G LTE for conferencing on the go.

TP 10 Protector

The $70 Protector cover allows users to retro-fit the tablet with a ruggedized option.

Touch Case

Lenovo offers a $120 Touch Case that serves double duty as a membrane keyboard and a cover for the ThinkPad 10.

Ultrabook Keyboard

The full-size Ultrabook keyboard run $130 and can connect to the tablet wirelessly via Bluetooth or the Lenovo docking station via the USB 3.0 port.
