16 New ThinkPad Laptops Lenovo Is Launching This Year

Lenovo has been busy with its ThinkPad line of laptops in early 2017. The company has done multiple announcements of new ThinkPads so far -- ensuring that mobile workers will have plenty of options for upgrading to a durable new Windows 10 laptop this year. An improved trackpad, Intel Kaby Lake processors and the addition of USB-C are among the common themes across many of the models in the lineup. The launches also include new takes such as a ThinkPad focused on developing virtual reality content, and a number of laptops add a silver color option along with the traditional black.

In the following slides, we've got the specs, prices and release dates on 16 new ThinkPad laptops that Lenovo plans to launch in coming months. (Release dates provided by Lenovo to CRN.)

ThinkPad X1 Carbon (Fifth Generation)

Starting price: $1,349

Release date: March

Display: 14-inch WQHD IPS (2,560 x 1,440) or FHD (1,920 x 1,080)

Processor: Seventh-gen Intel Core i (U-series, up to i7-7600U with vPro)

Features: The X1 Carbon is now smaller in overall size (with its 14-inch display fit into a 13-inch form factor) and lighter (at 2.5 pounds, 6 percent below the prior X1 Carbon). Lenovo has also boosted the laptop's battery life to 15.5 hours from 11 hours previously, and the new version will include two Thunderbolt 3/USB-C ports, alongside two USB-A ports and HDMI. For security, the laptop adds an IR camera with facial recognition to support Windows Hello log-in, and it's now available in silver or black.

ThinkPad X1 Yoga

Starting price: $1,499

Release date: March

Display: 14-inch OLED WQHD (2,560 x 1,440), WQHD IPS or FHD IPS (1,920 x 1,080)

Processor: Seventh-gen Intel Core i5 or i7 (U-series, up to i7-7600U with vPro)

Features: With this new generation, the ThinkPad X1 Yoga remains the only 14-inch OLED notebook out there. The laptop gets battery life of 10.5 hours for the OLED version or 15.5 hours for the non-OLED models, and features two Thunderbolt 3/USB-C ports. The X1 Yoga can also be used with a re-designed ThinkPad Pen Pro -- and, of course, sports the signature 360-degree hinge for folding the display part or all of the way back. It's available in silver or black.

ThinkPad X270

Starting price: $909

Release date: March

Display: 12.5-inch HD IPS (1,366 x 768), FHD or FHD Touch

Processor: Seventh-gen Intel Core i3, i5 or i7 (U-series, up to i7-7600U)

Features: The updated ThinkPad X270 specializes in major battery life -- Lenovo promises up to 21.4 hours on a charge -- thanks to its dual-configurable battery architecture. The laptop also weighs just 2.9 pounds and features a strong selection of ports (HDMI, USB-C, two USB-A ports, SD card reader and optional smart card reader). In addition, a touch-screen option is being made available for the first time with the X270.

ThinkPad Yoga 370

Starting price: $1,264

Release date: March

Display: 13.3-inch FHD Touch

Processor: Seventh-gen Intel Core i3, i5 or i7 (U-series, up to i7-7600U)

Features: The ThinkPad Yoga 370 is a newly designed ThinkPad 2-in-1, featuring the 360-degree Yoga hinge and an integrated digital pen. The Yoga 370 weighs 3.17 pounds and measures 0.7 of an inch thick, while also promising 10 hours of battery life. And for ports, the laptop includes HDMI, USB-C, two USB-A ports and Display Port. It's available in silver or black.

ThinkPad 13

Starting price: $674

Release date: Feb. 23

Display: 13.3-inch FHD IPS Touch

Processor : Seventh-gen Intel Celeron, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7 (up to i7-7500U)

Features: The updated ThinkPad 13 includes faster PCIe NVMe SSD options (up to 512 GB), and rates high on portability with a weight of 3.17 pounds and thickness of 0.75 of an inch. The laptop also adds a USB-C port and has a silver color option in addition to black.

ThinkPad P51

Starting price: $1,399

Release date: April

Display: FHD IPS, FHD Touch IPS or 4K UHD IPS

Processor: Intel Xeon E3-v6

Features: Aimed at engineers, the ThinkPad P51 includes heavy-duty Intel Xeon processors, Nvidia Quadro graphics (up to M2200M), as much as 64 GB of DDR4 RAM and up to 2 TB of PCIe storage. The P51 also features the X-Rite Pantone color calibrator and includes a touch pad that's optimized for use with CAD software.

ThinkPad P51s

Starting price: $1,049

Release date: March

Display: FHD IPS, FHD Touch IPS or 4K UHD IPS

Processor : Up to seventh-gen Intel Core i7

Features: With a thinner and lighter form factor than the P51 (4.3 pounds vs 5.6 pounds, 0.79 of an inch thick vs 1.02 inches), the P51s still packs a lot of power with up to 32 GB of DDR4 RAM and the latest Intel Core processors. The P51s also includes Nvidia Quadro graphics (M520M) and up to 1 TB of PCIe storage.

ThinkPad P71

Starting price: $1,849

Release date: April

Display: 17.3-inch FHD IPS or 4K UHD IPS

Processor: Intel Xeon E3-v6

Features: Lenovo says the P71 is aimed at users looking to create virtual reality content, as well as for professionals with high-performance computing needs in other fields such as oil and gas. Intel Xeon processors, up to Nvidia Quadro P5000 graphics, up to 64 GB of DDR4 RAM and up to 2 TB of PCIe storage are among the features. A dual-fan cooling system, a CAD-optimized touchpad and the X-Rite Pantone color calibrator are also included.

ThinkPad T470s

Starting price: $1,099

Release date: March

Display: 14-inch FHD IPS, FHD IPS Touch or WQHD IPS

Processor: Seventh-gen Intel Core i5 or i7 (U-series, up to i7-7600U)

Features: Along with offering a number of display options, the T470s aims to mix portability (2.9 pounds, 0.74 of an inch thick) with strong processing power and battery life (more than 10 hours). The T470s includes USB-C, and is available in silver or black.

ThinkPad T470p

Starting price: $1,049

Display: 14-inch FHD IPS, FHD IPS Touch or WQHD

Processor: Seventh-gen Intel Core i5 or i7 (HQ-series, up to i7-7820HQ)

Features: The T470p differentiates from the rest of the new ThinkPad models by offering Intel's powerful HQ-series of processors. The laptop also comes with up to 32 GB of DDR4 RAM, discrete graphics from Nvidia (GeForce 940MX) and up to 12 hours of battery life.

ThinkPad T470

Starting price: $914

Display: 14-inch FHD IPS Touch

Processor: Seventh-gen Intel Core i3, i5 or i7 (U-series, up to i7-7600U)

Features: While coming in at a lower price than the T470s and T470p, the T470 offers major horsepower and portability (3.5 pounds, 0.78 of an inch thick). Lenovo says the battery life is also configurable to reach up to 18 hours on a charge, and USB-C is included.

ThinkPad T570

Starting price: $909

Release date: April

Display: 15.6-inch FHD Touch or UHD non-touch (3,840 x 2,160)

Processor: Seventh-gen Intel Core i5 or i7 (U-series, up to i7-7600U)

Features: The new T570 is a bit thinner and lighter than the previous generation, and also comes with up to 32 GB of DDR4 RAM, up to 16 hours of battery life and Nvidia GeForce 940MX graphics. Other features included USB-C and an IR camera for Windows Hello login.

ThinkPad L470

Starting price: $799

Release date: April

Display: 14-inch HD or FHD IPS

Processor: Seventh-gen Intel Celeron, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7 (up to i7-7600U)

Features: The L470 sports a lower price tag than many of the other new ThinkPads, but still offers features such as 12 hours of battery life, up to 32 GB of DDR4 RAM and switchable AMD graphics.

ThinkPad L570

Starting price: $909

Release date: March

Display : 15.6-inch HD or FHD IPS

Processor: Seventh-gen Intel Celeron, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7 (up to i7-7600U)

Features: Up to 1 TB of storage, up to 32 GB of DDR4 RAM and multiple display options are among the key features of the L570. Lenovo notes that the laptop's keyboard includes a dedicated numeric keypad, and the L570 also offers up to 11 hours of battery life on a charge.

ThinkPad 11e

Starting price: $519

Release date: February

Display: 11.6-inch HD

Processor: Seventh-gen Intel Core i3

Features: Aimed at the education market, the ThinkPad 11e includes durable Gorilla Glass, water-resistant keyboards and mechanically anchored keys. The notebook also features 10 hours of battery life.

ThinkPad 11e Yoga

Starting price: $599

Display: 11.6-inch HD IPS Touch

Processor: Seventh-gen Intel Core i3

Features: The ThinkPad 11e Yoga is a 360-degree touch display version of the education-focused 11e notebook. Features include Corning Gorilla Glass, 10 hours of battery life and a Windows Ink-supporting digital pen.
