9. CenturyLink Buys Tier 3
In a bid to bulk up its enterprise cloud services portfolio, Monroe, La.-based telecommunications provider CenturyLink snapped up cloud provider Tier 3.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but CenturyLink said it plans to use Tier 3 products as the foundation for its overall cloud strategy moving forward. The Tier 3 portfolio, which has already been rebranded "CenturyLink Cloud," is also underpinning CenturyLink's new Cloud Development Center in Seattle.
CenturyLink said the merger will allow the company to combine its own scale -- which is made possible by 52 data centers around the globe -- with Tier 3's best-in-class cloud platform, helping it become a major player in the enterprise cloud market.
