7. T-Mobile, MetroPCS Merger
T-Mobile and rival U.S. carrier MetroPCS officially joined forces in May through a merger the two companies initially announced in October of last year.
The newly formed company, which operates under the T-Mobile brand, has a combined 43 million users and $24.8 billion in revenue. The joined entity also has a stronger shot at competing against telecommunications giants AT&T and Verizon, which are currently the second-biggest and biggest U.S. carriers, respectively, than each company had on its own.
The terms of the deal involve German telecommunications company and majority owner of T-Mobile USA Deutsche Telekom holding a 74 percent stake in the combined entity, with MetroPCS holding a 26 percent stake.
