The 10 Biggest Telco Stories Of 2013

5. Former Verizon CTO Lands At Juniper

In what was also one of the biggest networking stories of the year, former Verizon CTO and CIO Shaygan Kheradpir (pictured) was tapped by Juniper Networks as its next CEO.

Kheradpir, who will officially join Juniper on Jan. 1 and replace retiring CEO Kevin Johnson, is a 10-year Verizon veteran who led the development of the carrier's $12 billion FiOS business and is widely credited with nudging Verizon toward the consumer broadband business with the rise of the consumerization of IT and BYOD trends.

Juniper solution providers told CRN they are anxious to see if Kheradpir's appointment will result in Juniper emphasizing its service provider portfolio, for which sales were up 12 percent year-over-year in the networking company's most recent quarterly earnings.
