When Coming In First Is Worst
Professional sports teams usually strive to come in first place, as the San Francisco Giants did in winning the World Series in 2010 and 2012.
But back in 2007, when the club's owner sent a memo to his CIO, Bill Schlough, asking why the Giants "have always been at the top of this list," the organization's IT department was not proud of the top spot he referred to.
It was a list ranking spending of all Major League franchises on their communications infrastructures, and the Giants were again shelling out more than any of their rivals.
That prompted a search for a telecommunications provider that could offer better value to the organization, and ultimately a move to ShoreTel, a pure IP Unified Communications vendor.
