September saw a hiring spree within the telecom industry as service providers and master agents bulked up their channel rosters. New products and services also continued to make news as providers worked to round out their portfolios with channel-friendly offerings.

Here are six newsworthy things that happened in the telecom industry last month that solution providers should know.

Julie Dzubay Joins WTG As Vice President Of Sales Operations

World Telecom Group appointed Julie Dzubay as vice president of sales operations, tasked with overseeing the master agent's sales organization.

Dzubay comes to WTG with an extensive background in the telecom industry. Most recently, she served as director of channel sales operations and development for Integra Telecom. Dzubay also is a member of the Technology Channel Association, according to the Malibu, Calif.-based master agent.

Dzubay reports directly to WTG CEO Vince Bradley.

Broadvoice Appoints New Channel Manager

VoIP provider Broadvoice added to its channel ranks with the hiring of Ryan Ficken as channel manager of the two-year-old partner program.

As channel manager, Ficken will support Broadvoice's growing channel partner program and work alongside partners as a dedicated resource for technology selection and solution design, according to the Los Angeles-based provider.

Ficken comes to Broadvoice with 18 years of sales and marketing experience. Most recently, the executive held sales management positions at Ottawa University, xPlore Lawrence, and ValuNet Fiber, an Emporia, Kan.-based telecommunications provider.

Level 3 Unveils Cloud-Based Security Service

Telecom provider Level 3 debuted its latest security service in September, Adaptive Threat Intelligence.

The cloud-based security service can help customers identify risks in near-real-time, and gain visibility into historical events via an online portal, without hardware. The service also includes access to Level 3's own team of security experts that can help with monitoring and mitigating any threats or attacks, according to the Broomfield, Colo.-based provider.

Level 3 said that the service is now available in all regions.

Intelisys Taps Telecom Veteran G.R. Heryford To Join Management Ranks

Intelisys, a Petaluma, Calif.-based master agent, is adding more resources for partners in the Northwest.

The master agent this month said Senior Vice President, West region J.R. Cook brought on G.R. Heryford as senior manager of strategic partner development for the Northwest region. In this new role, Heryford will support Intelisys partners in Washington and Oregon.

Heryford has 20 years of telecom experience under his belt and has channel management experience. Most recently, he served as channel manager for Trinity Network Solutions.

Adtran Delivers Cloud-Based Tool Suite For Network Operators

Networking and communications equipment provider Adtran this month unveiled a suite of cloud-based tools for network operators.

The latest suite of tools -- ProCloud Subscriber -- will ease the creation, delivery and management of broadband services for operators. Pre-provisioning and deploying new equipment associated with these services is a burden on time and resources for many service providers, according to Adtran.

The ProCloud Subscriber orchestration software suite includes features like automated subscriber activation, subscriber analytics, as well as a subscriber portal for deeper network visibility. The suite is based on Adtran's software-defined networking-based Mosiac Cloud architecture, the Huntsville, Ala.-based provider said.

Line Systems Appoints New Channel Manager To Coincide With Southeastern Growth

Telecommunications service provider Line Systems hired a new channel partner manager for its Southeast region, Jace Harris.

Line Systems has been rapidly expanding in the Southeastern region, now the provider's fastest-growing market, according to the West Chester, Pa.-based provider. In his new role, Harris will be working to increase the number of active partners in the area, as well as support the company's existing master agent relationships in the Southeast, including its relationships with Atlanta-based Microcorp, and Charlotte, N.C.-based CNSG.

Prior to his appointment, Harris served as territory channel account manager for Avaya.
