USB At RSA: 8 USB Security Products To See At RSA Conference 2011

USB Revolution

RSA is fast approaching. The biggest security conference in the states kicks off next week in San Francisco and everyone who's anyone in the security world will storm the City by the Bay to check out the latest and greatest in security gear.

And some of the new products share a common theme: The USB storage drive. A host of new security products to make their debut at RSA next week are USB based. Just plug them in and they provide the key to security.

Here, we take a look at some of the latest USB-based security products that will launch at RSA Conference 2011 next week.

Kingston Technology DataTraveler 4000

At RSA, Kingston Technology plans to announce DataTraveler 4000, which brings FIPS-level encryption to the enterprise. The FIPS 140-2 Level 2 validated USB Flash drive meets the U.S. government standard of evidence of device tampering. Data onboard the USB drive is protected by 256-bit AES hardware-based encryption, the strongest available on the market. Kingston's security expertise, extensive purchasing power with NAND Flash makers and global distribution channels allow for a high-level encrypted drive that is consistently available and cost-efficient to the enterprise.

Kingston Technology DataTraveler Vault -- Privacy Managed

Kingston Technology will announce its new DataTraveler Vault -- Privacy Managed at RSA. The new release gives corporations a centrally-managed secure USB solution. When activated with BlockMaster’s SafeConsole server software, the 256-bit AES hardware-based encrypted USB Flash drive offers companies a sophisticated, powerful solution to help prevent data loss when it resides outside the network. Passwords can be reset or reissued, the drive can be locked or disabled in case it is lost or stolen and a file audit log monitors data that moves in and out of the USB.

IronKey Enterprise

IronKey will show off its IronKey enterprise solution to thwart the loss of regulated or confidential data. According to the company, IronKey Enterprise integrates easily with RSA, McAfee and VMware solutions to create an affordable and simple, yet scalable and reliable, portable secure storage solution for the mobile workforce. IronKey Enterprise is a mobile-encrypted storage device providing data encryption and end-point security that can be managed through a centralized cloud-computing solution.

For resellers, IronKey Enterprise serves as a natural extension to their existing security practice, as it adds to end-point protection, data protection and strong authentication installations to generate new and additional revenue opportunities and enhanced margins.

Also at RSA, Arrow Enterprise Computing Solutions, a business segment of Arrow Electronics, will discuss its value-added distribution agreement for the North American channel with IronKey.

BlockMaster SafeStick

BlockMaster will highlight its SafeStick USB flash drives at RSA. SafeStick is a secure USB flash drive that protects stored data with AES 256 hardware encryption and strong password protection. Users plug it in, set their own password and that's the only way to access what is on the stick. Password management is available with SafeConsole, which offers remote password resets, remote kills of rogue devices and more. SafeStick also locks down if it is left behind using an adjustable timer lock, the company said.

Also at RSA, BlockMaster will reveal a partnership with workspace virtualization player Ceedo, though both companies are keeping the details under wraps.

Yubico YubiKey With DS3 Support

Yubico at RSA plans to demonstrate a new partnership with Data Security Systems Solutions (DS3) in which Yubico's YubiKey USB authentication key will be supported on DS3's authentication server.

YubiKey simplifies the process of logging in with a One Time Password (OTP) token, as it does not require the user to re-type long pass codes from a display device into the login field of the computer. The YubiKey is inserted in the USB-port of any computer and the OTP is generated and automatically entered with a simple touch of a button on the YubiKey, without the need for any client software or drivers. Yubico's YubiKey is designed to be rugged, ultra-thin, battery-free, crush safe, and waterproof.

Yubico/Nordic Edge Authentication

Yubico will also showcase its partnership with Nordic Edge, a provider of identity and access management solutions, through which the pair launched a combined solution for login authentication for the Turkey Customs and Social Agency. The deployment leverages Nordic Edge One Time Password Server with authentication tokens from Yubico, which allows secure cloud sign on for 10,000 staffers. Nordic Edge's One Time Password Server authenticates users using a username/password and a one-time password and Yubico's USB-key, YubiKey, provides two-factor authentication.

Imation Defender Collection

Imation at RSA will introduce the latest expansion to its Defender Collection portfolio. To meet the rapidly growing need for data-at-rest security solutions, Imation will unveil 64 gigabyte capacities of its Defender F100, F150 and F200 +Biometric Flash Drives.

The company will also showcase new security management software options to help SMBs where data security is paramount -- sectors such as government, health care, retail and financial services -- better manage the risks and responsibilities of increasing data growth and portability.

Hiddn Crypto Adapter

The Hiddn Crypto Adapter is designed to encrypt and decrypt thumb drives, external hard drives and other USB storage media. The device connects to a computer via USB and uses two-factor authentication -- a smartcard storing all encryption keys and a PIN code -- to protect all externally stored data. It can protect data transported between the office and home and office, traveling with sensitive data and working between office branches. The Hiddn Crypto Adapter incorporates FIPS 140-2 Level 3 and Common Criteria EAL4+ certified Hiddn Crypto Module for regulatory compliance and data breach prevention.
