Quick Clicks: Lenovo's New IdeaPad S10 Netbook PC

Lenovo launched its first "netbook" PC with the unveiling of the IdeaPad S10 notebook computer on Monday.

Weighing in at just two pounds, it is intended as either a compliment to a more powerful home PC or as a first-time computer buyer's introduction to computing and the Internet.

The compact notebook ships with Intel's Atom processor. It has a 10.2-inch screen and is about one inch thick. The S10 comes in black, white or red and has a QWERTY keyboard that is 85 percent the size of a standard notebook PC keyboard.

The Research Triangle Park, N.C.-based PC maker also intends to release netbook computers designed for the education market.

"IdeaPad netbooks are the latest in a string of recently announced Lenovo products, designed specifically for consumers worldwide and developed through our heritage of technological innovation and exceptional engineering," said Liu Jun, senior vice president, Consumer Business Group, Lenovo, in a statement.

"As rapidly as the technology changes, today's consumers are looking for mobile products that feature the best of basic computing functions in an extremely compact and affordable form, and Lenovo designed the IdeaPad netbooks for that purpose," he said.

The IdeaPad S10 netbook comes with WiFi, a built-in web cam, two USB ports and a 4-in-1 card reader. It ships with Microsoft Windows XP and can be configured with 512 MB of memory and an 80 GB hard drive or 1 GB of memory with a 160 GB hard drive.

The S10 will ship in early October and starts at $399.

It will be available through Lenovo, retailers and resellers.
