VMware, Friends Make Storage A Focus At PEX

At the annual VMware Partner Exchange (PEX) conference this week, storage was one of the key highlights of VMware. The company Tuesday said it received widespread industry support for its VMware Virtual SAN, or VSAN, software-defined storage offering, and expects it to start shipping by the end of next month.

VMware also unveiled a new version of its VMware Data Protection Advanced, or VDPA, with the ability to do physical backups of such Microsoft applications as SQL, SharePoint and Exchange. And while VMware took the unusual step of keeping two of its key storage partners, Veeam and Nutanix, away from the conference, many of VMware's storage technology partners were there to show a wide range of storage hardware and software for VMware virtualized and cloud environments.
