Intuit Thursday launched QuickBooks 2006, the next edition of the Mountain View, Calif. company's flagship small business accounting program.

QuickBooks 2006, said Intuit, sports a redesign that collects all important customer, vendor, and employee information onto a single screen for each -- dubbed Centers -- while setup time has been slashed by up to 80 percent in this version.

The edition also boasts a 50 percent increase in the number of concurrent users of the mid-sized Enterprise Solutions version; a new "available-to-promise" inventory feature that details what's on hand, where it's promised, when it's needed, and when more will arrive; and an "always-on" audit trail to make it easier for outside accountants to find and correct errors.

QuickBooks 2006 will ship later in the fall, Intuit said. Prices for the various editions of the accounting package have not yet been set.
