SWsoft is launching a two-tiered partner program to push deeper into the virtualization software market, where its Virtuozzo platform goes up against offerings from VMware and Microsoft.

Unveiled Wednesday, SWsoft's Partner Network offers two membership levels: Certified and Premier. All members get product discounts, sales leads, market development funds, training discounts, free sales training and access to a partner portal.

VARs seeking Certified partner status must have one person complete two days of technical training. Premier partners also are eligible for rebates but must fulfill added requirements. For example, at least three people must participate in a half-day, on-site sales training session plus two days of technical training, and Premier partners must meet quarterly sales targets, according to SWsoft.

In March, Herndon, Va.-based SWsoft hired Darren Harvey, formerly with VMware, to serve as director of enterprise channel sales in North America.

Virtuozzo is an operating system-based server virtualization technology that can dynamically partition a single Linux or Windows instance into multiple virtual environments.
