Oracle vet takes his leave

Dave Dargo, an Oracle veteran who made waves when he joined Ingres as senior vice president of strategy and CTO, is stepping down.

The news was buried at the tail end of a January 11 posting to Dargo's blog.

Dargo started working with Ingres in September 2005. He joined the company the following month when the company was spun out of CA, Islandia, N.Y.

He had been a key exec in Oracle's Linux push. Ingres distributes an open-source database that competes with Oracle and other database players.

Dargo maintained in his post that Ingres retains a "strong team to execute and operate the company in a manner designed for long-term strength and growth."

An Ingres spokeswoman said Dargo was leaving "after a very successful year helping to get Ingres and Project Icebreaker off the ground." to return to an advisory role for the company.

The Ingres database itself has venerable roots: It was devised by database pioneer Michael Stonebraker.

Dargo was one of many Oracle veterans to go to Ingres. Others included Jim Finn, who also left Ingres to do corporate communications at Avaya, an Ingres spokeswoman. At times it appeared that Ingres as a company was obsessed with Oracle. Its Redwood City, Calif. headquarters is a stone's throw away from Oracle.

In his blog, Dargo wrote that he will come back as an advisor for Ingres "and the industry at large."

It appears that his bio has already been taken off the Ingres site. Dargo left a pointer to his new blog on his old one here.

This post was updated Friday afternoon with Ingres comment.
