InterSystems Targets ISVs With New Business Intelligence Software

While most mainstream business intelligence software operates with data warehouses that collect data from operational systems, DeepSee is designed to be embedded into operational applications and provide users with real-time data through reports and dashboards, according to InterSystems.
InterSystems' product line today includes the cache object database and Ensemble integration platform and 80 percent of the company's sales are through ISVs and solution provider partners who build vertical industry applications around those products, said Paul Grabscheid, vice president of strategic planning. DeepSee, he said, takes the same approach.
Business intelligence tools today are frequently used by analysts for strategic planning purposes. Building DeepSee into operational and transactional applications expands the use of business intelligence to a broader range of users such as line-of-business managers or plant managers for making immediate decisions, Grabscheid said.
QuadraMed, a Reston, Va.-based developer of Healthcare IT solutions and an InterSystems channel partner, expects to offer a commercial product incorporating the DeepSee BI software by early next year, said Jim Klein, senior vice president and CTO at QuadraMed.
People in financial and clinical operations in the healthcare industry want dashboards that provide them with operational business intelligence, Klein said, and the InterSystems software lets users act on the intelligence. "The really cool thing is we can click right through to the application because it's part of the same technology stack," he said. "You can operationalize the insight."
DeepSee's components include Analyzer for exploring and displaying data, Architect for defining data models, Designer for building dashboards and extended applications, and Connector for connecting DeepSee to external data sources. Connector isn't needed if a business is already using Cache or Ensemble. InterSystems is also providing pre-defined data models and a "starter set" of pre-built reports, graphs and dashboards.
DeepSee is available now for Windows, Linux, Mac, Unix and OpenVMS systems priced starting at $6,000.
