In honor of it's 10th-year anniversary, Google has made available their search index from January 2001. In some cases, the results can be pulled from an Internet Archive. Here a some interesting findings while "Googling" back in time:

Searching for "Microsoft" gave lots of results as expected. Check out some of the top buzz at the time on Microsoft:

"Video Hangs When Running 3D AGP functions on a Windows 2000-based computer"

""Microsoft is writing an Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6)" -- Jettison to 2008, there still hasn't been a significant shift to IPv6.

"Microsoft Linux - The Premier Linux Distro"

"Are You a Microsoft Victim?"

"Boycott Microsoft"

A search for "Apple" yields:

Various links to OS X 10.1 sites

"Titanium PowerBook G4 Gets Standard Slot Loading DVD-ROM/CD-RW Combo Drive"

Googling just the generic word "technology" gives these hits:

"Analysts say Athlon bests Pentium 4"

Webopedia's Recently Added Technology terms included: "hot fixing", "malware", "service pack" and "crosstalk ratio"

Hot computer games at the time? Searches show: Spore, Nancy Drew and Warhammer: Age of Reckoning.

This look back at search results from seven years ago, is an interesting testimony to the constant and break-neck speed of technological evolution.
