In the first half of 2008, VARs working with major vendors combined to write more than $2.7 billion in proposals for customers looking at content management software or portals in the SMB marketplace. The usual suspects all jockeyed for market share, but Microsoft dominated the competition, capturing 42.5 percent of the value of all proposals in the first half of 2008. Microsoft captured the highest percentage of proposals, but its average transaction size was less than half of its two closest competitors. IBM VARs captured a respectable 18.4 percent of the market while their competitor Oracle accounted for 11.1 percent. HP rounded out the top four market share spots with 7.5 percent.
