Most everyone loves Thanksgiving turkeys. But IT industry turkeys? Not so much. We look at 10 examples of 'turkeys' that have disappointed the tech industry this year.
Not really an update or patch, 3.5.1 installs like a reinstallation or fresh install of the browser. Midway though install on an XP machine with Firefox 3.5, the following error message popped up: "Incompatible Add-On: Microsoft .Net Framework Assistant 1.0." The install gives the option to check for a compatible version (which was not found).
The installation continued, however. After the install, Firefox redirects to a page indicating that the user has just installed the latest (and safest) version of Firefox.
A noticeable improvement right away was how quicker version 3.5.1 opens than 3.5 on the same machine. Multitabbed browsing also seems a bit speedier.
Some add-ons were updated. All survived the update intact and there were no issues with the following add-ons: FoxTab, Greasemonkey, Interclue and Twitterfox.
In version 3.5, we had noticed a few crashes viewing video on various sites. It seems that problem has been fixed in the update.
Kudos to Mozilla developers for the quick turnaround time with this update. Fixing a major security flaw and improving the performance and response time of the browser running on Windows is no small feat, especially considering it was developed in less than 72 hours.
