Yahoo Promises Tighter Integration With Facebook

A Tuesday blog posting by Jim Stoneham, Yahoo vice president of communities, said the integration "will open the door between two of the Internet's largest online communities."

The tighter links will allow Yahoo users to view their Facebook friends' activities on Yahoo and share such Yahoo content as photos, article comments and movie ratings directly on their Facebook stream.

Yahoo will offer the improved integration with Facebook through a new service called Facebook Connect across all Yahoo properties worldwide, Stoneham said.

While Yahoo users already can call up Facebook activity streams and post status updates from the Yahoo home page, Stoneham said the new capabilities will more deeply integrate the two Web sites.

"Yahoo's goal is to bring together social experiences from across the Web, and provide one place for people to access information and stay in touch with the people they care most about," Stoneham said in the blog.

In addition to Yahoo Mail and Yahoo News, the Facebook Connect capability also will work in conjunction with Yahoo Answers and Yahoo Sports, according to the blog. Users will be able to update their status message from multiple Yahoo pages, rather than just the home page.
