Overland Storage Signs Synnex As Distributor

Overland Storage this week signed Synnex as a new distributor for its tape and disk storage appliances.

The signing of Synnex comes as Overland Storage is starting to look beyond its reorganization and cost-cutting measures to increase its reach in the channel.

The company signed Synnex to expand its channel outreach and to take advantage of Synnex's experience with the Snap product line, said Ravi Pendekanti, vice president of worldwide marketing for the storage vendor.

In addition to Synnex, Overland Storage also distributes its appliances through Ingram Micro, Tech Data and PAC Data.

The agreement includes Overland Storage's REO series of disk-based backup and recovery appliances, and its Neo and ARCvault tape products, Ultamus RAID SAN appliances and its Snap Server NAS appliances.

"We want to build out more robust channel partner relationships," Pendekanti said.

Overland Storage bought Snap Server brand and assets from Adaptec about a year ago for $3.6 million in cash.

Eric Kelly, who became CEO of Overland Storage in January, co-founded Snap and later sold it to Adaptec.

The last 12 months have seen Overland Storage make several changes to recover from financial issues over the past couple years, Pendekanti said.

These include bringing expenses more in line with the company's business, including workforce cuts in January, as well as shifting its product line to be less focused on products and more focused on solutions such as video surveillance and data replication, he said.

"Even in economic times like this, the video surveillance market keeps growing," he said.
