Netgear is expanding its reach to serve midmarket businesses with the introduction of its ReadyNAS storage appliance.

Netgear, San Jose, Calif., on Monday unveiled the newest member of its ReadyNAS family, a 2U, 12-bay appliance that provides up to 24 TB of raw storage capacity that can be accessed via NAS and iSCSI protocols. The product is Neatgear's largest ReadyNAS storage appliance to date.

It features two Gbit Ethernet ports, and can be configured with RAID 0, 1, 5 or 6, or as a JBOD (Just a Bunch of Disks, or non-RAID).

The new ReadyNAS 3200 is the company's largest-ever storage appliance aimed at its SMB customers, Meyer said. "We've really kicked in our focus on SMB this year," he said.

The ReadyNAS 3200 uses the same secure Debian Linux-based operating system as the rest of the company's storage appliances, Meyer said.

It includes replication technology and is available with the company's new ReadyNAS Vault, a new Web-based online storage technology built using technology from Los Angeles-based Elephant Drive, he said.

ReadyNAS Vault, which was introduced last month, is available either for $199 per year for the first 50 GB of storage and 25 cents per GB per year in 50-GB chunks in excess of the initial capacity, or $5.95 per month for 5 GB of storage with 40 cents per GB over the initial capacity.

The ReadyNAS 3200 has a five-year warranty and can come with 6 TB, 12 TB and 24 TB of storage capacity. Pricing starts at $4,999.
