Seagate's FreeAgent DockStar Makes User Content Available As A Service

The FreeAgent DockStar also comes bundled with a service to allow content to be accessed from anywhere via the Internet and a user's iPhone.
The network adapter includes an Ethernet port as well as three USB ports that, along with the proprietary port for Seagate's FreeAgent Go portable drive, allow users to access and share content on up to four storage devices over a network.
Seagate on Wednesday also unveiled a new service in conjunction with Pogoplug, a service of San Francisco-based Cloud Engines that allows data and content from any USB hard drive to be shared across the Internet.
Seagate also is providing an iPhone application that allows iPhone users to upload and download data via their mobile devices.
The FreeAgent DockStar, combined with the Pogoplug service, lets users build their own personal "storage cloud" in a matter of minutes to share content and even deliver content direct to social networking sites such as MySpace and Twitter, Seagate said.
The network adapter is available immediately via online retailers with a suggested retail price of $99.99, which includes one year of Pogoplug service for remote access and sharing.
Seagate on Wednesday also unveiled three new capacity points for its FreeAgent Go portable hard drive family, including 1-TB, 880-GB and 750-GB models.
