CRN's Big Redesign: Coming Soon To Your Desktop

Fast Growth 100 Industry Hall of Fame

Well, because seeing is believing, I'd like to draw your attention to CRN TV, where solution providers can get a sneak peek at some of the new departments and sections you can expect in the print edition after the CRN redesign.

With the Jan. 8, 2007, print edition, we'll adopt a massive overhaul, changing both in format size and look. The publication will still open with news, but since solution providers have told us repeatedly you want analysis and perspective, you'll see us go longer and deeper with the major developments of the week.

We're also going to go deeper with our Demand Generation coverage, which we've been featuring in random case studies up until now. This new department will include coverage of programs from distributors and vendors that can help solution providers drive sales and, of course, more of those case studies from your peers in the Fast Growth 100.

You'll see us put a bigger focus on identifying and writing about companies that offer you alternatives -- both in product and program -- to what the big guys are doing. And our technology coverage will be consolidated into one section called Tech Focus.

Because solution providers have told us it's valuable, we're overhauling and keeping the Numbers Sheet, where you'll find trend data and statistics both from our own research as well as from great partners like Forrester and S.G. Cowen.

In late January, the CRN redesign will bring the arrival of a brand-new member of the CRN editorial family, called CRNtech.

Once each month, we'll combine coverage from the CRN Test Center and the CRN news team that sets out the services opportunities associated with emerging technologies technologies.

You'll find more round-up reviews, bakeoffs AND contributed opinions and tips from other solution providers. If you're in charge of making decisions about technology, you can expect your first issue at the end of January.

CRNtech will also get its own Web site, where reviews will be the focus. And that's probably the most important takeaway from this whole redesign business.

The fact is, you'll see us diverge our print and online products more than ever in 2007, optimizing the message for the medium. You'll still be able to get much of our print coverage someplace online. But that WILL NOT be the focus of our online activity.

Online is about the here and now, about helping you answer questions, search for information and about letting you communicate with your peers in the solution provider community. And, FINALLY, with the New Year, we should be in a position to do that.

The main thing that hasn't changed about CRN? Very simply, we're still dedicated to news. To exposing and analyzing industry developments -- technical or otherwise -- that could have an impact on your business.

In case I don't blog again before Christmas, have a safe and joyful happy again. I'll be back again a couple of times before the new year.

Meanwhile, if you have feedback, e-mail me at [email protected].
