Vista, Office 2007 Launch. Again
Do you hide under a rock? Not if you're Microsoft.
Microsoft rents out every billboard in Manhattan and, in the words of The New York Post monopolizes Times Square for a launch event. Well, actually a RE-launch event.
Talk about milking news cycles. According to one observer at today's event, the company's Vista commentary verges on the defensive: "It's important! Really! You'll like it if you use it a whole bunch and understand all its wonders!"
Today's soiree, complete with oyster shooters at Cipriani, marks the general availability of Vista and Office 2007 at retail and via hardware OEMs. The earlier November 30 event marked availability to companies with volume license agreements. Her take: People remain more jazzed about Office 2007.
Steve Ballmer keynoted both extravaganzas. Bill Gates made it to Manhattan this time but wasn't there in November.
