The Daily App: Wi-Fi Analyzer For Android
One area where Android as an operating system may seem to be building a clear advantage over other mobile platforms is in the number of apps that are friendly and useful to IT professionals – including network analyzers and security apps.
For today’s Daily App, we’ve chosen an aptly named Wifi Analyzer, by a developer called Farproc. The app does exactly what it says: sniffs out all available Wi-Fi networks and measures the strength of each.
The app then presents the data in several different formats, including very nice graphical formats and charts, which make it easier to determine which networks will provide, ostensibly, the best performance. For VARs or anyone in IT, that means that it provides a nifty tool in an environment with multiple wireless networks to constantly and easily monitor their performance against each other – and monitor all of them while on the go.
It could also be used as a nice utility to demonstrate where a lagging router or other network issue may be causing performance problems at a site, particularly if a CIO or administrator has doubted that equipment may not be up to snuff (Wifi Analyzer will show in easy-to-read graphical format if a router is lagging in performance).
Wireless networks are measured by dBm (power ratio in decibels).
Wifi Analyzer is a free download, with in-app advertisements.
