The Daily App: VidTrim for Android
VidTrim for Android is a free download from the Android Market, and provides a straightforward, no-frills method of cutting down video clips directly on a smart phone or tablet itself.
While lacking the more sophisticated features of other apps – including Apple’s iMovie for iPhone on that competing platform – we did a quick download, installation and tryout of VidTrim and found it’s a clean, easy app for doing just what its name says.
Once downloaded and installed, VidTrim will allow you to choose from videos in your camera roll and, simply by moving sliders at the right or left of the timeline, and then clicking a scissors icon at the top right of the screen. The app lets you either edit the existing video clip, or save it as a new clip altogether. One caveat: we had a video with a .avi format on the device, and VidTrim wouldn’t read that file.
There are any number of reasons, though, why a simple, straightforward video clipping app would come in handy – the least of which is to cut down the size of a video file so it would be easier to email or send via SMS.
There is a “pro” version of VidTrim that’s available for $2.97 from Android Market. The free version is supported by in-app advertisements.
We expect there to be many more video editing tools for Android in the coming months, but for now VidTrim is a free app that can provide useful utility when clipping video on the fly.
