The Daily App: Webroot Mobile Security Basic for Android
Now Webroot has launched its mobile product for Android devices, tablets and smart phones, so we wanted to give it a whirl. The app is a free download from the Android Market, and took just a minute or two to install.
Launching the app requires either signing in to an existing Webroot account, or creating a new account. The app will scan a device for malware as well as vulnerabilities, and will also provide for “Secure Web Browsing.” That feature, as it does on PCs, will “block malicious Web sites” (according to Webroot). If you’ve used this feature on a PC, you know that it can be quite effective.
Additionally, Webroot Mobile Security Basic for Android allows for antivirus scanning that we found to be blazing fast while not impeding a device’s performance.
The premium version of the app runs at $14.99 from the Android Market, but additionally provides a feature that allows you to sign in to the Webroot Web site and enact a lost-device feature that lets you find where the device is, if you’ve lost it.
Security continues to be a significant concern for Android devices in the enterprise, but it’s reassuring to see that Webroot has now joined in with the makers of other security apps to provide a growing number of choices for device protection. That Webroot has a good reputation in the PC space should help its recognition for the Android platform.
