The Daily App: Fing for iPad
Fing for the iPad is one of the fastest and snappiest network monitoring utilities we’ve seen for iOS devices, and it provides a quick and pretty-much complete look at device activity on a network.
A free download from the Apple iTunes App Store, Fing sets up in less than a minute, and, also in less than a minute, will scan a network and produce a deep list of all devices attached to it.
Fing will determine the device’s IP Address, its MAC address and manufacturer, and provide the ability to name the device in your records and even assign it an icon (say, for a mobile device, a printer or a storage unit) for quicker identification during the network monitoring process.
The app allows for exporting of network data via email, for searching through the amassed inventory list for specific IP addresses or vendor devices, and for a privacy mode. It’s not flashy from a graphics standpoint, but it’s fast and allows for a quick read-through of inventory and network data in a way that’s useful for anyone who needs to troubleshoot a network or take a quick count of devices.
Fing for iPad , by developer Nives Vanzo, is good enough app for rudimentary network inventory and analysis.
