The Daily App: Genius Scan+ PDF Scanner for iPhone

One of the new features in iPhone 4S that is different from previous versions of iPhone is an 8 megapixel camera, which its maker, Apple, has demonstrated in marketing materials with beautiful photos of attractive models in exquisite locations.

But what about just using the quality camera on iPhone 4S for routine, day-to-day office work? That may not be as attractive to many, but for the price of the phone and a 2-year service contract it could provide return on investment.

Enter Genius Scan+ PDF Scanner by The Grizzly Labs, a $2.99 download from the Apple iTunes App Store, which allows for nifty document scanning via the iPhone 4S camera – and then converts the photos into JPG or PDF format. While we’ve looked at a number of scanning applications on the primary mobile platforms, Genius Scan+ offers what seems to be the greatest number of options for saving, storing or sharing scanned documents right from the handset.

For example, once you’ve scanned a document to PDF, Genius Scan+ allows you to send it or save it to Evernote, Facebook, Twitter, Dropbox, Google Docs or other apps with the press of a button. We tried this app, and the quality of the PDF reproduction via the iPhone 4S – largely because of the 8 MP camera – is about the best we’ve seen yet from a smartphone device.

The app also provides cropping and enhancement features to make the digital copies even better.

While there is a free version of this app, without Evernote, Dropbox or Google Docs support, we recommend the paid version because of the wide variety of sharing options, it’s ease of use and quality.
