The Daily App: Tablet Keyboard for Android
That’s largely correct: if you’ve been typing since the days of the IBM Selectric typewriter, tapping onto a touch-screen keyboard can be a cramped, unnatural experience. Now software developers are moving to help.
We tried out Tablet Keyboard for Android, an app that’s $1.20 from the Android Market. Once downloaded, we needed to follow the in-app instructions to make sure we fixed the tablet’s settings to switch from the native, out-of-the-box keyboard to Tablet Keyboard, but that took only about a minute.
This app works more like a desktop or notebook keyboard – including offering the option to vibrate the device every time you tap a key, the ability to access superscript characters via the shift key, and a capslock key that capitalizes letters but keeps the numbers unchanged.
This app also allows the option to have a full keyboard, or split the keyboard into right-left modes – an option that comes across as weird an unnecessary. Still, if you like to have a split keyboard, you can with Tablet Keyboard.
With people doing more work on Android devices, they might as well feel more comfortable along the way. For many, Tablet Keyboard will provide that extra comfort.
