The Daily App: Net Swiss Tool for Android
Net Tools, by developer Sanctuaire, is a no-frills, straightforward, multi-function-type of app for quickly gaining network metrics on your Android device.
A free download from the Android Market (the free version runs advertising), Net Swiss Tool provides the ability to ping a URL, run a “Ping Sweep” of IP addresses in a network, scan for open ports, run trace routes and device process information.
It provides you with the ability to set “timeout” periods, before running a scan or trace that locks up the app for longer than you’d like.
We found the app to be fast and, in spite of grammatical errors in some of the command lines and results, accurate.
Net Swiss Tool lets you save data directly to your device or export to any number of other apps, including Gmail, Google Docs, Evernote or printer apps.
This app is designed more for an Android handset than a tablet (though we tried it out on a 7-inch Android tablet, and it was fine.)
While this app is one of at least dozens that perform the same or similar functions, it’s clear that the Android platform is emerging as a strong one for IT tasks in enterprises large and small.
