The Daily App: Glympse for Smartphones
Looking for an easy and uniform way to track the location of field workers, sales people or your kids? Glimpse, from Share your where, is a free app and service that provides a simple interface for communicating one's whereabouts with the mother ship.
Field technicians, for example, can send a Glympse to their boss and the customer when they set out for a job; recipients can track their location in real-time and log their time of arrival. Glympse messages can be sent via email, Facebook, SMS or Twitter to individuals or groups at a time, and can have an expiration time, which eliminates outdated location events.
To send a Glympse, simply bring up the app or its widget, select an email or phone number (from your device's contact list brought within the Glympse client), select a duration, and hit send. An email (SMS or whatever) is sent to the person or group. If it's the first time sending to that contact, Glympse prompts you to add it to faves and give it a nickname.
The recipient(s) of the Glympse message get(s) a Web link to a Google Map with your location and updates the course of travel. This very cool and mature app/service is a must-have for any organization (or parent) seeking to track and/or communicate locations. Glympse clients are available for Android, Blackberry, iPhone and Windows Phone 7. The Android version is a Google Market Editor's Choice, and the Glympse promotional video is guaranteed to make you laugh.
