The Daily App: Dropbox for Android

Who hasn't said or heard "I'll e-mail that to you when I get back to the office," only to forget about it later. You can forget that phrase altogether by using Dropbox Inc.'s cloud-based storage service with today's Daily App: Dropbox for Android.

Compatible with most Android devices (as well as Blackberry and iPhone/iPad), the Dropbox mobile app permits direct transfers of pictures, videos, email attachments and other files from smartphones and tablets directly to an existing Dropbox account; no more need to forward emails to yourself or connect to your desktop or laptop computer.

Dropbox for Android is free, as is the basic Dropbox service, as long as your total storage doesn't exceed 2GB. If you need more than that, a 50GB plan starts at $9.99 a month. Compatible with Mac OS X and Windows, a client-side app makes cloud-based file sharing as easy as creating a folder, and files saved to a Dropbox folder are kept in sync between machines, devices and the cloud automatically. Recent improvements to the Android app include background transfers over WiFi and wireless data plans, and storage of credentials in Android's secure Account Manager.
