The Daily App: VMware View For Android
We know virtualization scales up, but it also scales down. One proof is the progress VMware is making with its Mobile Virtualization Platform as demonstrated in this video from Mobile World Congress 2011.
The company last week showed more love for mobile with the release of VMware View for Android, the latest version of its ubiquitous (and free) VDI client that's also available for iPad, Linux, Mac OS X and Windows.
Shown here running on a tablet, VMware View for Android employs the PCoIP protocol and works with VMware View Server 4.6 or 5.0 and most devices running Android 2.2 or later. It works over WiFi or 3G and occupies about 6 MB of device space. The tool supports all native Android gestures and also implements a trackpad (shown) if preferred. VMware also hosts a user community and discussion forum.
