The Daily App: Battery Genius for iPhone, iPad

There are tons of "battery buddy" apps out there that monitor and report what's using the iPhone or iPad battery and how much time is left to do stuff. But very few let you do anything about it. One in the former category that implies that it's in the latter is Battery Genius, a management app from developer Sax.net that isn't quite what it appears.

The $0.99 app claims to accurately predict remaining battery time for specific tasks, and presents buttons that look like they're for toggling battery-sapping controls such as GPS radio and screen brightness. But alas, like so many barroom blabbermouths, Battery Genius is all show and no go.

One user commenting at the AppStore called Battery Genius "misleading," and was disappointed that the Conserve feature buttons (shown) are there simply to offer advice. "I purchased the app so that I would have a better way to get to those features...the company should be more upfront about what functionality is provided with 'Conserve.' "

We're still in search of a function-toggling app for iOS like the so-called "Shortcut Tool," which we came across in this YouTube video, but is actualy not available in the AppStore or iTunes.
