The Daily App: Peel for Android, iOS

Today's daily app will let your mobile device customers get more from their tablets and smartphones than just email, e-books and e-surfing, even without the involvement of its universal home theater remote. Peel is a free app from Peel Technologies that learns the user's television watching preferences and presents recommended shows in a personalized, easy-to-navigate grid.

When coupled with its hardware, the ingenious Peel solution also changes TV channels and controls devices such as the cable box, DVR, DVD, Blu-ray and even Apple TV. But Peel is actually quite a useful addition to the viewing experience even without all of its extra bells and whistles.

For example, fans of the Fox smash TV hit American Idol will enjoy the interactive experience that's now included in Peel 2.0.4 for iOS, which posted last month. This version is compatible with iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch devices running iOS 4.0 and higher.

Device maker Samsung offers a version of Peel it calls Smart Remote that controls its Web-connected televisions and media players. The company later today will have a major tablet announcement that ties in; we'll bring that to you here tomorrow.
