The Daily App: MeetUp for Android, iOS

LinkedIn and other professional networking sites might be a great way to quickly bolster contact lists, but nothing beats face-to-face meetings for building lasting connections. Today's Daily App gives professionals a great way to network in person rather than behind a computer screen. Meetup for Android and iOS works with its namesake company's web site to get people out of the office and attend conferences or social gatherings organized by like-minded people in specific lines of work.

After setting up an account at Meetup.com and entering a specific set of interests, invitations immediately begin. Meetup events appear in the app, along with the ability to RSVP, communicate with other members or find out more. To RSVP for an event, most groups require that you join the group that's hosting it first. Then, event details such as the address will be made visible. RSVPs are followed by a confirmation email.

The list of available Meetups can be narrowed by topics such as technology, education or music, as well as by type, such as closest, newest or most popular. You can also organize your own Meetup event and even charge a fee for attending. The app itself is free, as is Meetup membership, though some groups charge a membership fee.
