Why You Should Care: SECNAP addresses a need for an affordable, easy-to-use security product that stops spam. Completely.
The Lowdown: SECNAP Network Security says its SpammerTrap e-mail security appliances filter out virtually all spam, viruses, phishing e-mails and other malware.
"When you go spam-free, you just can't go back," said Dawn Stratton, director of distribution for the e-mail and network security company, based in Boca Raton, Fla.
SECNAP executives said that the company's founders wanted to make a foolproof product that could catch 100 percent of spam. And they came close, with a product that was able to maintain a 99.9 percent accuracy rate. "All of the customers' solutions they had implemented were defective," Stratton said. "They thought they could create a whole new way to do e-mail security."
And they did, with the company's flagship HackerTrap which evolved into its current SpammerTrap E-mail Security product.
In addition to blocking spam, SpammerTrap also comes complete with content filtering, e-mail archiving, encryption and firewall capabilities, along with data loss prevention components -- all housed on one appliance. And while competitors may offer many of the same functions, their end user customers often are required to add them on piecemeal, Stratton said.
"With us, it's everything in one container," Stratton said. "We started with a new technology from the ground up. We're able to put all these great features and functions in. You just have to buy the key."
Added functions, such as encryption, also enable the company to directly target vertical markets such as health care and education, which are required to meet an array of regulatory compliance mandates such as Sarbanes-Oxley and HIPAA.
That compliance component will likely be a big hook for resellers looking to get their foot in the door of financial, health-care and other government organizations. Meanwhile, SECNAP is looking to add channel partners -- about 500 in the next 12 months, Stratton said.
