Apple Announces Dates of WWDC 2008

Cupertino, Calif.-based Apple will host WWDC 2008 from June 9 through 13 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, and the company expects developers from around the globe.

With the iPhone on the agenda for the first time, it's likely to be a hot topic among developers looking to create programs for the smart phone and for the iPod Touch. Apple sold about 4 million iPhones in its first full quarter on the market last year and expects to sell 10 million in 2008.

WWDC 2008 will feature three tracts: iPhone, Mac and IT, and hits just as iPhone 2.0 software should be available. Developing for Macs in the enterprise will also be on the agenda.

Apple unveiled its much-anticipated beta version of its iPhone SDK earlier this month and within its first six days more than 100,000 developers had downloaded the software.

Apple has been criticized by developers since releasing the SDK for its tight control over the distribution of iPhone applications written using the SDK by requiring they be submitted to the company and sold through an Apple-regulated App Store.
