"Eager to experience over-the-top Force powers and a brand-new Star Wars storyline that bridges the events between the two movie trilogies, fans downloaded the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed demo more than 1 million times in just eight days, topping the previous record by an entire day," said LucasArts in a statement.

The Star Wars: The Force Unleashed demo is also available for download through the PlayStation Network, and combined downloads of the demo from both the PlayStation Network and the Xbox Live Marketplace totaled more than 2.3 million.

Gamers will get to play as the character of Darth Vader's "secret apprentice" in a storyline that is set between the prequel and original Star Wars movie trilogies.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will be released Sept. 16 in North America, with versions available for the Microsoft Xbox 360, the Nintendo Wii, the Nintendo DS, the Sony PlayStation 3, the Sony PlayStation 2, and the Sony PlayStation Portable video game systems. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will be released on Sept. 17 in Australia and Southeast Asia, and Sept. 19 in Europe.
