Note On Firefox 3.1 Review - On Javascript, We Get It
In testing, we used several benchmarks to compare Firefox 3.1 beta to Internet Explorer 7. Many readers have commented that the comparison was biased against Microsoft, because IE8 is purported to be such an overhaul from IE7, that a fairer comparison would have been Firefox 3.1 versus IE 8. There is truth to that, but the fact is IE 7 is what's widely used at the moment, so that's what we went with.
We will definitely take a look at further comparisons of Firefox 3.1 beta, especially against Chrome(another well performing browser) and IE8.
Lastly, thanks to the many readers who pointed out the mantra that I will not be forgetting for awhile: Java!=Javascript. I rather carelessly substituted the word "java" in instances where I should have used "javascript". The two are very different and developers from around the world took me to task for it, deservedly.
Keep posted for further browser comparisons and a soon-to-come preview of Windows 7!
