Apple Users Can Access Vonage From Macs

The Companion software, which has been available in a PC version as Vonage Pro, uses the computer's built-in speakers and microphone, automatically detecting them within the system and configuring itself with minimal manual effort. A headset can also be plugged in.

The product is aimed at the Mac-using small-business person who travels a lot. The "softphone" functions as an extension of the user's Vonage phone; incoming calls ring both to the Vonage home phone and the Companion.

Vonage Companion can be used for conference calling, call recording and call blocking. Users can view their call histories, check voice mail, create contact lists and use the calling features they have on their home line. It can also import CSV and vCard files. Using the software on a notebook when traveling is free in the U.S. and costs 1 cent per minute internationally.

Like the Vonage Pro service, Companion provides unlimited residential voice service, 25 free 411 calls per month and 25 free visual voice-mail message per month. The package, including Companion, costs $35 per month.
