Display Ad Exec Departing From Google
Rosenblatt, previously CEO at online advertising company DoubleClick, joined Google in March 2008 when Google acquired DoubleClick for $3.1 billion.
Rosenblatt's pending departure was reported Wednesday by The New York Times, which said it obtained an e-mail from Rosenblatt to friends and colleagues disclosing his plans. Google confirmed the departure to Reuters.
It's unclear what Rosenblatt's next career step will be.
Rosenblatt is the latest ad executive to leave Google. Tim Armstrong, Google's head of Americas sales, left the company last month to become chairman and CEO of Time Warner's AOL operations. There has been ongoing speculation that Time Warner is preparing to spin-off AOL. Earlier this month Sukhinder Singh Cassidy, president of Google's Asia-Pacific and Latin America operations, left to join venture capital firm Accel Partners.
Google still relies heavily for its sales on the text-based ads that appear next to search results. But since the DoubleClick acquisition, Rosenblatt had been overseeing the company's effort to build a display advertising business.
