Pure Digital's Flip Cameras Go HD

The Flip families of cameras made by Pure Digital are becoming more popular because of their small size and easy-to-use feature. Now the company has decided to bulk up its form factor -- and price -- with its first HD offerings, the Flip UltraHD and Flip MinoHD.

The Flip UltraHD has 8 GB of built-in memory that allows users to record about 120 minutes of video in high definition. The LCD screen measures 2 inches diagonally and sports 960-x-240 resolution, providing a surprisingly large screen to watch video as it is being recorded.

The video quality on the Flip UltraHD is surprisingly beefy with 1,280-x-720 resolution, and ultra-low light sensitivity and automatic low-light detection helping to keep videos crisp. The Flip UltraHD's two hours of battery life are powered by rechargeable AA batteries.

The Flip MinoHD is the smaller form factor of the two camcorders, with a width measuring just 1.97 inches. Still, the MinoHD packs a 1.5-inch diagonal LCD screen with 582-x-132 resolution. Its 4 GB of built-in memory translates to about 60 minutes of video recording time.

Like the UltraHD, the MinoHD has 1,280-x-720 resolution but differs when it comes to its battery. Unlike its bigger cousin, the smaller Mino doesn't have removable AA batteries and is powered instead by an internal Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery.

Both high-definition versions of the Flip camcorders come with built-in software for easy video editing and posting.

The Flip UltraHD and MinoHD are available for order now and are priced starting around $199.99 and $229.99, respectively.
