Toshiba Portege Comes With 512 GB SSD
The Toshiba Portege R600-ST4203 notebook comes with an impressive set of specs and a price tag to match. The R600 is powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo SU9400 processor and 3 GB DDR2 memory. But the notebook also comes with 512 GB of solid state storage. That's half a terabyte.
While solid state drives are gaining popularity, the price tag associated with the drives aren't. To wit, the Toshiba R600 with solid state drives starts at a wallet-busting $3,499.
The solid state hard drive is built on Multi Level Cell (MLC) NAND flash memory technology, increasing the density of the SSD and allowing for more storage space. According to the company, this technology allows for faster boot times and reduces the time a user may spend waiting for an application to load.
In addition to all the memory in the notebook, customers receive a 12.1-inch LED transreflective wide-screen display, Intel Wi-Fi 5100AGN wireless LAN connectivity and a Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD.
One reason manufacturers are interested in solid state technology is because it reduces the amount of strain put on the battery. The company claims that the R600's Li-Ion battery will power the notebook for about seven and a half hours.
A solid state drive can also help keep a notebook slim and light, two other concerns of potential customers. To that end, the R600 is .77-inches thick and tips the scales at just 2.4 pounds.
The Toshiba Portege R600-ST4203 will be available starting in early June.
