At Sun, Business Building Equals Community Building

Claire Giordano, a Sun engineering manager, likens the gathering efforts around Open Solaris to development of the Flickr photo-sharing community:

Observers, like Tim Bray, have been pointing to Giordano's observation and advising folks to keep an eye on the space.

As logical as community-building is for Sun--or any company, for that matter--it's worth remembering that Sun was once so proprietary that even Bill Gates could laugh at its expense.
