AMD versus Intel: And The Winner Is...

But if you tried to put an AMD-based notebook in a head-to-head test against an Intel-based notebook, many times there would be hemming and hawing and all sorts of caveats thrown around. Few manufacturers have made AMD- and Intel-based commercial notebooks that have been identical down to the "on" button – identical, that is, except for processing platform.

Earlier this year, though, Fujitsu began shipping versions of its Lifebook commercial notebook line that were the same – except the Lifebook S6000 lineup is built on the Intel platform, while the Lifebook S2000 lineup is built on an AMD platform.

The CRN Test Center obtained models of each, and put them in a head-to-head competition. The test was transparent, and taped for CRN TV. You can view the actual testing – and see the result (I'm not giving it away here, you have to actually watch the tape). If you doubt the test, it's not that difficult to reproduce. The Fujitsu notebooks are publicly available. The testing application used by the CRN Test Center is publicly available. Anyone can try it.
