Pittsburgh Couple Sues Google For Posting Photos Of Their Home
The photos, accessed using Google maps' Street View mapping feature, shows 360-degree camera shots of homes along a street.
The photos appear to have been taken from a camera mounted on top of a vehicle driven through the neighborhood, according to the suit filed in Allegheny County Common Pleas Court.
The plaintiffs, Christine and Aaron C. Boring, allege that Google violated their privacy by filming their home on a private road without permission. The couple is seeking unspecified damages in excess of $25,000 for invasion of privacy, trespassing, negligence and lowering their property value, according to the newspaper.
The Borings also asked the court for an injunction to remove any and all pictures from the Web site and requested that it "cease and desist" from entering their lane or any other private roads, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
A Google spokesman said the lawsuit had "no merit," according to the newspaper.
Google has long provided satellite photos of roads, homes and other locations and now offers 360-degree street-view photos along selected locations. The Street View feature allows users to request that photos be removed for inappropriate content, privacy infringement, personal security or other concerns, according to the Web site.
On Monday morning, Street View access along some sections of the Borings' Oakridge Lane road were no longer available.
