Sun Sees The Light

This week the wraps came off a brand new Sun Microsystems. The Scott McNealy that trekked to Linux World to launch the company's LX50 servers was in many ways the anti-McNealy: a proponent of Intel's x86 platform, 32-bit computing, Linux, small business and even the solution provider channel. Only the wisecracks about Microsoft remain of the old McNealy.

LinuxWorld also provided news from IBM, BEA, Oracle, Microsoft and Red Hat, among other companies. Find all our Linux World coverage in our Linux News Center.

Rob is also following up his feature with another of his road trip diaires, and this one is a doozy: part one and part two are online now, with more to come.

The APEX Awards

Here's a happy item I've been meaning to get off my plate for a few weeks now: earlier this summer, CRN and VARBusiness were both receipents of APEX Awards, recognizing excellence in business journalism. CRN picked up an APEX for online writing for its ongoing breaking news, and one for newspaper writing for it's Top 25 Executives feature.

VARBusiness gained highly prized bragging rights by snagging several more: personality profile for Bill Gates and You, column writing for Bob DeMarzo's A Friend Makes A Sacrifice For Love Of This Country, magazine writing for the State of Technology, and feature writing for How to Beat the Soft Economy, Excited about Education, and the technology profiles on Portals, E-commerce and Content Management. CRN also received three print design awards, and VARBusiness snagged two.
